Discover the office of Louis Guilloux, a writer from Saint-Brieuc
Just a short walk from the town center, follow in the footsteps of Louis Guilloux, a major figure in 20th-century French literature. In the working-class district of Saint-Michel, in a house built in 1932, you'll discover the study where the author wrote much of his work, including Le Sang noir (1935), Le Pain des rêves (1942), and Le Jeu de patience (The Game of Patience), which won the Prix Renaudot in 1949.
The Louis Guilloux House is a 6-minute drive and 17-minute walk from the Hôtel Le Duguesclin, in the heart of Saint-Brieuc.
Located in the attic, this study, largely preserved in its original state, overlooks the town on one side and the Bay of Saint-Brieuc on the other. It was in this room, surrounded by his books and drafts, that Louis Guilloux experienced the intimacy of literary creation.
But the Saint-Brieuc writer's office also bears witness to his hours of commitment! It hosted several Resistance meetings during World War II.
Owned by the city and awarded the "Maison des Illustres" (House of the Illustrious) label in 2012, this house is today a vibrant place where literature enthusiasts and curious visitors of all ages meet.
Temporary exhibitions, meetings, literary award ceremonies, writing workshops, and youth events punctuate the life of the place throughout the year.
A visit for the whole family: enriching and inspiring!
Address: Maison Louis Guilloux, 13 rue Lavoisier – 22000 Saint-Brieuc
